Professional Chimney Inspection in Ellington — Protect Your Home, Health & Peace of Mind
Have you ever wondered what’s really going on inside your chimney? When was the last time someone took a close, professional look at it? In a town like Ellington — where charming colonials, ranch-style homes, and wood-burning fireplaces are a part of everyday life — the chimney plays a bigger role than most people think. Yet behind the bricks and masonry, smoke, creosote, moisture, and temperature changes are constantly at work. Over time, they weaken the structure in ways that aren’t obvious until problems become serious.
That’s where our Ellington chimney inspection specialists step in. With advanced tools, local experience, and a commitment to safety, we make sure your chimney is clean, structurally sound, and ready for every season.
Why Chimney Inspection Matters in Ellington, CT
Ellington’s shifting seasons put steady pressure on chimney structures, from summer humidity to winter freeze-thaw cycles. Regular inspections aren’t optional here — they’re crucial for keeping your home safe and your fireplace performing the way it should.
Here’s why it truly matters for Ellington homeowners:
- Fire Prevention: Creosote, soot, and debris buildup can ignite quickly — inspections ensure your chimney stays clean and fire-safe.
- Carbon Monoxide Protection: Hidden cracks or damaged flue liners can leak dangerous gases back into your home.
- Early Structural Detection: Inspections identify loose bricks, deteriorated mortar, and shifting masonry caused by Ellington’s winter cycles.
- Water Damage Prevention: Cracked crowns, failing flashing, and missing chimney caps often start slow leaks that lead to mould, rust, and wall damage.
- Improved Energy Efficiency: A properly drafting chimney helps your heating system burn cleaner and reduces fuel waste.
- Odour & Smoke Reduction: Inspections catch animal nests, soot blockages, or damp buildup that cause smoky rooms or foul chimney smells.
- Higher Property Value: A well-maintained chimney is a strong selling point — buyers love homes with documented upkeep.
- Insurance-Friendly Maintenance: Staying up to code keeps your chimney compliant with local standards and avoids insurance issues.
Our Chimney Inspection Process
Every home in Ellington is unique, so we offer three levels of inspection to match your chimney’s condition and your safety needs.
Inspection Levels
- Level 1: A basic annual check for chimneys with no major changes. We review accessible areas, look for soot buildup, and confirm the system is operating safely.
- Level 2: Ideal for home sales, after storms, or when appliances have changed. Includes everything in Level 1 plus a full video scan and evaluations from the attic, basement, or crawlspaces.
- Level 3: Reserved for suspected severe damage. May require removing components (crowns, walls, or interior finishes) to uncover hidden hazards.
What Your Inspection Includes
- External Assessment: Brickwork, mortar, cap, crown, and flashing checked for cracks and leaks.
- Internal Flue Scan: High-resolution cameras identify cracks, blockages, and liner damage.
- Draft & Airflow Test: Ensures smoke moves properly without backdrafts.
- Moisture Detection: Locates early signs of leaks, rust, mould, or dampness.
- Creosote Review: Measures buildup that can ignite chimney fires.
- Protection Check: Confirms caps, crowns, and flashing are fully secure.
- Digital Report: Clear photos, findings, and straightforward recommendations.
My Local Ellington Experience
Living and working in the Ellington area, I’ve learned that no two chimneys are ever the same — even when they’re built in the same decade or neighborhood. I still remember inspecting a brick chimney off Shenipsit Lake Road one winter. The homeowners said the fireplace “just didn’t feel right,” even though nothing looked wrong. Inside the flue, we found a split in the liner caused by repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Catching it early prevented a major fire hazard and saved the family from a costly full rebuild in the spring.
It’s moments like these that remind me why chimney inspections matter. When you know the climate, materials, and local building styles as well as we do, you spot problems long before they become emergencies.

EXCELLENT Based on 356 reviews Posted on Daniel JacobTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. GMT Chimney Services did an outstanding job installing a new liner in my chimney. Their price was nearly half of what other companies quoted, and the work was excellent. My chimney wasn’t drafting correctly, which caused my water heater to break. After the liner was installed, the issue was completely resolved. Highly recommend for their fantastic work!Posted on Gary SandersonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Juan that came to check out my fireplace and put on the caps was excellent.. the guys that came and did the pointing, and outside work did ok work but didnt communicate with us... never rang doorbells or gave us calls, not good communication.... this comapny expect you to be home almost at all times says they will work with you in times so, scheduled a day to come work and needed someone to be home wife took day off and they tried to tell us no one was home didn't even knock or ring door bell... just left tried to tell us no one was home and that they rang door bell and knocked.. we have cameras and ring door bell and wife took day off.. one week goes by no calls nothing gave us 30 min notice called abut 9a.m to show up around 930... again the workers were all pretty good but the communication between them the lady in the office and home owners should be better.. she Called and asked for payment job wasn't complete.. caps were not install.. Juan came out again was great did what he had to do and bill was paid.. I'd love to use them again for a cleaning because the work was ok and some of the guys doing the work. But they need to realize that people work for a living and cant be home at all times and some of the workers and the office need to be able to communicate with the home owners and possibly each other a bit better.. the pricing was average better then some others and work was overall ok.. if your someone that can be home often this company will be perfect for youPosted on MariaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Nice workPosted on Ravi GopieTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joe came to check my fireplace since I wanted to make sure I was good for the season before lighting it. He did a wonderful job of explaining that the fireplace was safe to use this year and advised me of when to contact them for a cleaning. He checked the firebox, and explained what was happening in the flue. I will certainly be calling GMT again for my future cleanings because of this interaction. Joe was friendly and warm, and did a great job explaining how to use the fireplace.Posted on אילן חרוביTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great service!
